Big shoulders

The bigger the better -- just don't go all Lady Gaga with them, or you'll have trouble squeezing into a car!

Big shoulders serve to flatter your figure by creating the illusion of a smaller waist. Just a word of advice -- opt for them on outfits in solid colours, or the overall look becomes a bit too busy. Here, actress Katie Cassidy gets it just right.

Paisley prints

This one certainly took us by surprise, but hey, who are we to argue with the likes of Demi Moore?

Paisley has also been seen on some of the leading runways across the world and for this year at least, the pattern seems to be making its presence felt bigtime. We don't know how long it will last, so jump on the bandwagon while you can.

Ab-tastic eveningwear

This look takes guts -- and rock-hard abs like Gwyneth Paltrow's!

Cropped eveningwear has taken to the red carpet with a bang and is going strong at the moment. It's a head-turning concept, but if it goes wrong, it can go horribly wrong.

So basically, this one's only for the adventurous, edgy fashionistas who don't mind taking style risks. And yes, you better have a bod to match up to the attitude, or it won't do much good!

Plug pastels

Rich citrine hues give it up to pale pastels in 2012. Lavender, sky blue, light green, baby pink and the like are colours you should keep a lookout for.

Even if you're a vibrant person, there are ways of making your presence felt in pastels -- just take a page out of popster Katy Perry's book!
